Depart from evil

 Depart from evil

“Abstain from all appearance of evil.” (I Thessalonians 5:22)(KJV)

Let us mediate this verse with the help of Holy Spirit,

When the word Friendship is said as per Bible, first person who comes to our mind is Jonathan son of Saul. Bible says soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David,

“The soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.” (I Samuel 18:1)

“Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.” (I Samuel 18:3, 4)

[gn_pullquote align=”right”]Yes, though Jonathan loved David and helped him to escape from his father. He never left his father Saul and went with David.[/gn_pullquote]

They were the best example for friendship forever. But if we look into their life, we could see that there is some mistake which Jonathan did which led to die in war.

Yes, though Jonathan loved David and helped him to escape from his father. He never left his father Saul and went with David. He knew that the Lord has anointed David as the next King of Israel and also he knew that the Hand of the Lord rejected Saul. He also made covenant with David when he went to see David while he was hiding in woods.

“And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth” (I Samuel 23:17)

Though Jonathan knew that his father was wrong he never left. He would have protected David being with him too. But Jonathan never did. Later we could see his end,

“And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchishua, Saul’s sons” (I Samuel 31:2)

“And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa. And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people. And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan” (I Samuel 31:8, 9, 10)

[gn_pullquote align=”left”]Friends even today in our life there are many things which we do know that it is wrong and enter into that![/gn_pullquote]

Jonathan was great warrior but died as a common man with Saul. We could also think of the life of Judas Iscariot, though he was with Jesus he betrayed his own Master and Messiah whom he very well knew just for thirty pieces of silver. At the end, he hanged himself and died.

Friends even today in our life there are many things which we do know that it is wrong and enter into that! If this is happening in your life then just please think for a moment and detach yourself from it! For the end will be destruction. And we never want to have such and end! Are we?

That’s the reason Peter have suggested us,

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (I Peter 5:8)

“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” (I Peter 5:10,11)
