The Saviour

The Saviour

In Greek “Soter” is the word used for Deliverer. Means a person who delivers, lived a life like them and among them. Mathew 4:14,15 and Isaiah 9:1,2 says “in Galilee of the nations. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light

As per history Galilee which was allocated to Israel people, was filled with Gentiles for about 50yrs at the time of Machpelah. Later Jews made to migrate to Galilee though Galileans were considered Trivial than Jews in Judea. (John 7:52) Art thou also of Galilee? Search and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet. By these words it is clear that Pharisees treated Galileans with Trivial. Jesus Christ lived in Galilee which was treated with disrespect. At that time, people who lived in sin, uneducated, poverty, diseases and as slave to satan have seen a great light. A Deliverer is born to live among them and redeem them all.

Zacharia prophesied about Jesus as, “Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Luke 1:78, 79). Even you might be in the darkness of trivial by others, sin, poverty, unemployment and diseases. Jesus the son is born for you, your Deliverer. All the darkness around you is vanished today.

The other meaning for the Greek word “Soter” is “Rescuer”. A person goes from outside to deliver imprisoned people. “The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up” (Isaiah 9:2, Mathew 4:15). Lucifer imprisoned the Saints of God in the shadow of darkness preventing them to enter into heaven. This is called as Abraham’s bosom (Luke 16:22). The Saints who were in the shadow of darkness were unable to see God, and couldn’t enjoy the happiness of Heaven, were longed for the arrival of Messiah. Friend of God Abraham who lived his life with God face to face was also in the Shadow of darkness.

When Christ our Redeemer was born, the light shown upon the shadow of darkness and the darkness of imprison vanished. All the Saints of the Old Testament who were not moved out anywhere until then came to Bethlehem to see Jesus Christ, the Deliverer and worshiped Him. Angel said to Joseph, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins” (Mathew 1:21). But in Greek it says, “He and none other will save His people from their sins” This is the true meaning of the name Jesus. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Not only that “He shall save his people from their sins”(Mathew 1:21) Save means  (Psalm130:8,103:12) forgiving iniquities, redeeming one from the death caused by sin (Hell) (Psalm 103:3,4) not only that delivering from the ruling of sins (Ephesians 2:2-5; I John 3:9). Mathew didn’t used the word sin frequently (Only 7 times) But he stressed the word sin in this place which shows the importance of the word.

In Mathew 1:21 Bible says, Jesus didn’t call the people as “Sinners” as they were tied upon their sins and suffering but He called them as “His people” Isn’t Surprising? That He willingly took the ownership to deliver them.” This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting” (I Timothy 1:15, 16). Simeon took baby Jesus in his hands and said, “For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people’’ (Luke 2:31, 32). Even Mary rejoiced by calling Him “My Saviour”. Like Mary today even you take the World’s Saviour as Thy Personal Saviour!
